Frequently asked questions
Pace coaching compares the current workout against your own earlier run on the same route, so it appears from your second workout on that route onward. A first run has nothing to compare against yet.
Workouts under 100 metres or 30 seconds are treated as accidental starts and discarded by design. PaceBuddy tells you on screen when this happens.
Watch workouts transfer when the two devices are near each other and both apps have been opened. Opening PaceBuddy on the iPhone prompts the transfer. Note that a workout appearing in Apple Health does not mean it has reached PaceBuddy — those are separate systems.
Heart rate is measured by Apple Watch only, and requires permission. On the iPhone: Health app → Sharing → Apps → PaceBuddy, then turn on Heart Rate. Zones additionally need a date of birth, which the Watch asks for before the first workout.
The purchase is tied to an Apple ID, not a device. Signing in with the same Apple ID restores it automatically when PaceBuddy is opened. If it doesn't, use Settings → Restore Purchase.
Elevation comes from the barometer rather than GPS altitude, which is substantially more accurate on hills. Distance combines GPS with step-based calibration. Dense tree cover, tunnels and tall buildings degrade GPS for every app; if one particular route is consistently off, please get in touch with the details.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device. Workouts that were saved to Apple Health remain in Health and can be deleted there.
